Puri Jagannath Temple to close for four hours tomorrow for ritual
Bhubaneswar, Aug 3: The renowned Puri Jagannath temple will be closed to the public for four hours tomorrow (Sunday) due to the Chaitalagi Amabasya ritual, according to reliable sources. The ritual for Lord Jagannath and his siblings is set to take place at the Puri Srimandir.
In light of this ritual, public darshan will be prohibited from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., as informed by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).
During Chaitalagi Amabasya, the deities' foreheads are adorned with a golden mark called ‘Chita’. This ritual involves removing the temporary ‘chita’ applied during the Rath Yatra.
Notably, during the annual sojourn of the deities, they wear a temporary chaita made of thermocol. For Chaitalagi Amabasya, the foreheads of the deities are decorated with ‘Chita’ made of gold, diamond, ruby, emerald, and sapphire.
Specifically, Lord Balabhadra will be adorned with a ‘Nila Chita’, Lord Jagannath with a diamond ‘Chita’, and Devi Subhadra with a ‘Manikya Chita’.
