Veteran journalist and academic Dr. Pradeep Mahapatra passes away
Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: Eminent journalist and former Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication at Berhampur University, Dr. Pradeep Mahapatra, passed away on Thursday night at the age of 69. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the state capital due to complications from pneumonia.
Sources report that Dr. Mahapatra fell ill a few days ago and was initially admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was placed on a ventilator due to severe respiratory distress. He will be cremated in Berhampur, according to sources.
Dr. Mahapatra's passing has left a significant void in the field of journalism.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed his grief over Dr. Mahapatra's demise. On Twitter, the Chief Minister wrote: “The news of the demise of Professor Dr. Pradeep Mahapatra, a retired professor from the Journalism Department of Berhampur University, has left me deeply saddened. After his retirement, Dr. Mahapatra remained active in the field of journalism, writing numerous articles and books. His passing has caused an irreparable loss to the field of journalism. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and pray for the departed soul to rest in peace.”
