Odisha Vigilance arrests high-ranking excise officer for unexplained wealth

Bhubaneswar, July 30: In a major move against corruption, Odisha vigilance officers have arrested Rama Chandra Mishra, the Joint Commissioner of Excise in Bhubaneswar, on charges of possessing disproportionate assets. Mishra is set to appear in court today.
During searches of his properties, authorities uncovered an impressive collection of assets, including six multi-storey buildings, two flats in Bhubaneswar and Bargarh, 52 plots of land, and around 230 grams of gold.
When questioned, Mishra could not provide a satisfactory explanation for these assets.
Mishra began his government career in 1988 as a Sub-Inspector of Excise. He was promoted to Inspector of Excise in 2009, Superintendent of Excise in 2018, and Deputy Commissioner of Excise in 2021. In 2024, he was appointed as the Joint Director of Excise at the Directorate of Excise, IPICOL Tower, Bhubaneswar.
