Kerala landslide tragedy: Odisha doctor missing, wife hospitalized

Bhubaneswar, July 30: In a tragic development, an Odisha-based doctor and his wife have been reported missing, according to reports on Tuesday. The doctor, identified as Krushnaprasad Chinnara, and his wife Priyadarshini, had traveled from Cuttack to Kerala for a vacation.
While Priyadarshini has been found and is in critical condition, receiving treatment in the surgery ward of EMS Hospital in Kerala, Krushnaprasad remains unaccounted for. The couple had traveled to Kerala to celebrate Krushnaprasad’s birthday on July 27, but they went missing following a landslide in the region. Efforts to locate Krushnaprasad are ongoing.
The landslide, which struck Kerala’s Wayanad district, has resulted in the deaths of at least 45 people, with hundreds more feared trapped. In response, the Prime Minister’s Office has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has mobilized Fireforce and NDRF teams to the affected areas, with additional NDRF teams en route to assist in the rescue operations. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has confirmed that all government agencies are actively engaged in the search and rescue efforts following the devastating landslides near Meppadi in Wayanad.
