17 kg silver and rs 5 lakh stolen from businessman during bus trip
Bhubaneswar, July 27: A businessman traveling by bus from Berhampur to Kolkata was robbed of 17 kg of silver and Rs 5 lakh in cash on Friday. The victim, Mithun Mandal, a resident of Kolkata, was in Berhampur for business and was returning home when the incident occurred.
Sources indicate that Mandal had placed his bag containing the valuables on his seat while he briefly stepped out to get tea. Upon his return, he discovered that his bag was missing. The bus had made a stop near Bhejiput outpost on National Highway 16, close to Khallikot police station, for passenger refreshments.
The stolen items included 17 kg of fine silver and approximately Rs 5 lakh in cash. Mandal immediately reported the theft to the outpost police. Authorities are investigating the incident to recover the stolen goods and apprehend the culprits.
