Husband arrested in connection with Bhubaneswar journalist's suicide

Bhubaneswar, July 25: A day after a woman journalist allegedly committed suicide by jumping in front of a moving train, Dhauli police arrested her husband on Thursday.
Acting on a complaint from the family of the deceased journalist, Madhumita Parida, police took action against her husband, Sridhara Jena, and forwarded him to court, stated Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police, Prateek Singh.
DCP Singh briefed the media, saying, “Madhumita and Sridhara were not on good terms. The accused husband had threatened Madhumita with divorce, causing her distress. Madhumita had reported to Dhauli police on July 23 that her husband had not come home despite being on leave for 12 days. The issue was resolved at that time.”
On Monday, Madhumita’s family members filed a complaint at Dhauli police station after she attempted suicide by consuming phenyl. The situation was temporarily resolved at the station, with Sridhara, an Indian Air Force personnel, signing an undertaking to refrain from abusing or assaulting his wife and to end his relationships with other women.
The police have seized Sridhara's mobile phone and are interrogating his elder brother to determine the exact reason behind Madhumita’s suicide.
It is noteworthy that Madhumita, who worked for a web channel in Bhubaneswar, married Sridhara on March 1, following a 5-year relationship. Despite the marriage, Madhumita alleged that Sridhara maintained an extramarital affair.
