Opposition demands action against Governor's son, disrupts Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar, July 23: The Odisha Assembly has been adjourned until 4 PM today after a commotion erupted involving members of the opposition party, Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The uproar was triggered by the BJD's demand for action against the Governor’s son, who allegedly assaulted an Assistant Section Officer (ASO). Earlier, opposition members caused a disruption in the House, leading to a clash with ruling party members. As a result, Speaker Surama Padhy was compelled to adjourn the House.
The opposition raised the issue as soon as the Governor's speech began yesterday. Congress member Tara Prasad Bahinipati approached the well of the House, chanting anti-government slogans and questioning the whereabouts of BJP’s ‘Odiya Asmita.’ Within minutes, both BJD and Congress members staged a walkout during the Governor’s speech.
Opposition leader Naveen Patnaik criticized the state government, stating, "My party and I were disappointed and surprised that the present government has taken no action against the Governor’s son." He expressed his party's shock over the incident.
Patnaik further remarked, "Law and order has broken down. When I was in government, immediate action was taken against ministers, MLAs, MPs, and senior government officers who broke the law. The state government should act according to the law," he concluded.
