Bhubaneswar, July 23: A woman was allegedly stoned to death by her husband in an inebriated state at Balijoda village under Khunta police limits in Mayurbhanj district on Monday night.

The deceased, identified as Kunimani Singh (45), was reportedly killed following a family dispute, although the exact reason behind the crime remains unknown.

According to villagers, the couple had been married for 20 years but frequently argued over trivial matters. On Monday night, Sukadev and Kunimani had gone out, and an altercation broke out between them on their way home. In a fit of rage, Sukadev attacked Kunimani with a stone, severely injuring her before fleeing the scene, leaving her in agony.

Villagers later discovered Kunimani's body and informed the police. Authorities have registered a case under Section 241/24 and detained Sukadev for interrogation. A forensic team from Baripada is expected to visit the crime scene to collect evidence.
