Bhubaneswar, July 22: In a tragic incident, three youths were struck by a speeding truck on Sunday evening near Benjadhi bridge on National Highway 520 in Sundargarh district.

The deceased have been identified as Debendra Dehuri, Anadi Nayak, and Anil Dehuri from the Toda Basti area, under the Kalta outpost of Koida police.

Reports indicate that the youths were returning home from work when a speeding Hyva truck hit them, killing all three on the spot. The incident occurred at around 7 pm on Sunday.

Angered by the increasing number of accidents in the area, locals blocked the road, halting traffic on the National Highway.

Upon being informed, police officials arrived at the scene and sent the bodies for an autopsy. After discussions with the locals, the officials managed to calm the crowd and restore vehicular movement on the highway.

Meanwhile, the truck driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle a short distance from the accident site. The police have seized the truck and initiated an investigation into the incident.
