Bus falls off bridge in Boudh, 40 passengers injured

Bhubaneswar, July 20: As many as 40 passengers sustained injuries after a bus veered off a bridge on National Highway 57 in Boudh district in the early hours of Saturday. The bus was en route to Malkangiri from Bhubaneswar when the accident occurred.
Three of the injured passengers have been transferred to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla due to the severity of their conditions.
Sources report that the bus lost balance and fell 20 feet off the Sunakhai bridge.
Upon receiving the information, the fire department and police quickly arrived at the scene. All the injured were rescued and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Boudh. Of the 40 passengers injured, 17 are critically injured, and three have been moved to Burla.
Some passengers have blamed the mishap on the recklessness of the allegedly drunken driver and helper. Police have detained two individuals in connection with the incident and have initiated an investigation.
