BJD and Congress demand action over alleged assault by Governor’s son
Bhubaneswar, July 13: An assistant section officer (ASO) of the state government has alleged that he was brutally assaulted by Governor Raghubar Das’ son, Lalit Kumar, at Puri Raj Bhavan on the night of July 7.
The ASO, Baikunthnath Pradhan, has filed a written complaint at the Sea Beach Police Station regarding the incident.
Pradhan also reported the matter to Principal Secretary to the Governor, Saswat Mishra. In his letter, Pradhan stated that he was attacked by Kumar, his two PSOs, and two friends. Pradhan alleged that Kumar even threatened to kill him when he tried to escape.
"At around 11:45 pm on July 7, I was sitting in the office room. Aakash Singh, the personal cook of the Hon’ble Governor, came to the office and told me that Mr. Lalit Kumar, the son of the Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, wanted to meet me immediately. I went with Aakash to meet Lalit Kumar at Suite No-4. The moment Lalit Kumar saw me, he started scolding me in unparliamentary language and used highly objectionable slurs. When I objected to such humiliation, they started slapping me," Pradhan mentioned in the letter.
The incident has sparked outrage from the BJD and Congress, as the government has not taken any action on the matter.
The BJD has strongly criticized the government, while Congress members gheraoed the Raj Bhavan today, demanding strict action against the culprits.
