Advanced technology to monitor Rath Yatra traffic in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, July 5: Artificial Intelligence (AI) will play a pivotal role in managing traffic during the upcoming Rath Yatra, as announced by Traffic ADG Dayal Gangwar. State-of-the-art CCTV cameras integrated with AI technology will be deployed for enhanced traffic control. Additionally, a fleet of drones will be employed to monitor crowd movements, providing real-time data to the control room.
Preparations for the Rath Yatra have entered their final phase, with traffic restrictions set to begin from the night of July 6. This year marks the debut of advanced AI-enabled CCTV cameras aimed at improving traffic management. The deployment of numerous drones will further bolster crowd surveillance efforts.
For the first time, vehicle counts will be recorded at entry points, including buses, cars, bikes, and autos. Special traffic arrangements are planned for key routes like Puri-Brahmgiri, Puri-Bhubaneswar, and Puri-Konark, covering inbound and outbound traffic. Identified traffic congestion points, or "black spots," will be monitored closely with drone assistance.
Innovatively, a WhatsApp chat group featuring a QR scanner has been launched to provide commuters with instant traffic updates. Over 50 platoon forces and 450 officers have been mobilized to manage traffic flow. At Maltipatpur on the Puri-Bhubaneswar National Highway, a three-lane traffic system has been arranged.
