Tribal woman allegedly sells newborn for Rs 1 lakh in Jagatsinghpur

Bhubaneswar, July 4: In a shocking incident in Jagatsinghpur district, a tribal woman allegedly sold her newborn baby boy to a Telugu individual for Rs 1 lakh. The woman, Mamina Sarda, who lives in a slum, gave birth to the baby at Atharabanki government hospital on Sunday and reportedly sold him the next day.
The incident came to light when another woman, Manga, accused Mamina of reneging on an agreement to sell the baby to her. According to Manga, Mamina had initially agreed to give her the baby in exchange for financial support for Mamina's elder daughter’s future. Manga had advised Mamina against aborting the baby and had taken care of her during her pregnancy.
Instead, Mamina allegedly sold the baby to a Telugu-speaking man from Vizag. When Manga discovered this, a heated argument ensued, and Mamina has since gone missing.
Authorities are now involved, with the police forming a special team to investigate. The Child Welfare Committee has also vowed to take stern action following their investigation.
