Odisha lifts two-month fishing ban along coastline

Bhubaneswar, June 15: The two-month fishing ban along the Odisha coast has been lifted by the Fisheries Department, allowing fishermen to resume their activities in the sea using mechanized vessels.
However, the ban will still be enforced in certain regions due to ongoing DRDO activities.
The Fisheries Department had imposed restrictions on fishing with mechanized vessels from April 15 to June 14 to conserve fish during their breeding period. This 'fishing ban' was implemented under Section 4 of the Odisha Marine Fishing Regulation Act, 1982, to prevent disturbances caused by trawlers and other fishing machinery.
Small, non-mechanized boats and nets with large gaps were exempted from the ban, ensuring the conservation of fisheries resources during the breeding season.
