Wildlife officials rescue 176 turtles, arrest four in Nabarangpur

Bhubaneswar, June 15: Forest Department officials arrested four individuals at Jharigaan for allegedly smuggling rare turtles from Gatamunda to Umerkote in Nabarangpur district. The officials rescued 176 live turtles and seized two bikes from the suspects.
The arrested smugglers are from the Kalahandi area, according to officials. The forest department intercepted the smugglers while they were transporting the turtles from Kalahandi district to the Umerkote area.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of forest and wildlife officials arrived at the scene and rescued approximately two quintals of live turtles.
The rescued turtles have been placed in the Jharigaon Central Nursery. The four individuals involved in the smuggling operation have been arrested.
