Southwest monsoon to cover Odisha in next few days: IMD

Bhubaneswar, June 13: The Southwest Monsoon is gradually advancing towards Odisha after bringing heavy seasonal rains to most southern states. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), it is expected to reach parts of Odisha within the next three to four days.
The monsoon reached Odisha’s Malkangiri district on June 8 but was unable to advance further due to unfavorable weather conditions. Consequently, it stalled in Malkangiri. However, the Southwest Monsoon has now progressed to parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Telangana as of Wednesday. The IMD's regional center in Bhubaneswar reports that the weather will remain unfavorable for the next three to four days, resulting in hot and humid conditions in some areas of Odisha.
The weather forecast indicates that Bolangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, and Mayurbhanj will experience heatwave conditions, while coastal Odisha will face hot and humid weather.
Intermittent heavy rains with gusts of 30 to 40 km per hour are expected in northern and interior Odisha. Conditions are likely to change from June 15, with several areas in Odisha receiving rain. The seasonal rains will lead to decreasing temperatures, and heavy rain is anticipated in parts of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Kalahandi districts on June 16.
