Odisha braces for five more days of heat wave as monsoon lingers

Bhubaneswar, June 11: Despite the southwest monsoon advancing into parts of Telangana and Chhattisgarh, heat wave conditions are expected to persist in Odisha for the next five days.
According to a mid-day report by the IMD, "The Northern Limit of Monsoon now passes through 20.5°N/60°E, 20.5°N/63°E, 20.5°N/70°E, Navsari, Jalgaon, Akola, Pusad, Ramagundam, Sukma, Malkangiri, Vizianagaram, 19.5°N/88°E, 21.5°N/89.5°E, 23°N/89.5°E and Islampur."
Heat wave conditions are currently affecting several districts in Odisha, including Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bolangir, Ganjam, Boudh, Gajapati, Khorda, and Nuapada.
Light to moderate rainfall has been observed in isolated areas of Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Kalahandi. However, most of Odisha continues to experience dry weather.
Maximum temperatures have significantly dropped in a few locations, with notable decreases in some areas of South Interior Odisha. Conversely, a noticeable rise in temperatures has been recorded in parts of South Coastal Odisha and North Interior Odisha. No significant changes have been reported elsewhere in the state.
The highest temperature recorded was 44.0°C in Nuapada, while the lowest minimum temperature was 23.2°C in Boudh.
