Infant abducted from Balasore hospital recovered; suspect detained

Bhubaneswar, June 10: A day after a newborn boy was abducted from the maternity ward of Balasore District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), police successfully rescued the infant and reunited him with his mother.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning when Anita Dandapata, a resident of Baliapal block, reported that her newborn had been stolen. Anita, from Kulhachada village, had given birth to a baby boy on Saturday. Following the delivery, both mother and child were moved to the maternity ward. An ASHA worker and an unidentified woman approached Anita and took the baby under the guise of vaccinating him.
When the baby was not returned, Anita's family filed a complaint with the police. During their investigation, the police reviewed hospital CCTV footage and identified the ASHA worker and the unidentified woman.
A police team then launched a search operation and found the baby boy in the Jaleswar area. A woman has been detained for questioning in connection with the abduction.
