Similipal Tiger Reserve closes for four months starting June 12

Bhubaneswar, June 7: The Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district will be closed to visitors for four months starting June 12, according to an announcement by the national park authorities on Friday.
Field Director of the Similipal Tiger Reserve, Prakash Chandra Gogineni, issued a notice indicating that the reserve will be off-limits to tourists until approximately September 30. This decision is part of a protected area management initiative by the forest department.
Despite the closure, the eco-tourism complexes at Jamuani, Gurudia, Kumari, Barehipani, and Ramtirtha will remain open to visitors.
Every year, the tiger reserve authorities close the reserve forest to tourists from mid-June to the end of October during the rainy season, as road connectivity within the sanctuary is often disrupted, sources said.
Covering an area of 2,750 square kilometers, the Similipal Tiger Reserve is a major attraction for both domestic and international tourists due to its diverse flora and fauna, including the Black Melanistic Royal Bengal Tiger, and its stunning waterfalls.
