Unclaimed victim of Puri fire tragedy to be cremated after five days

Bhubaneswar, June 7: Due to the absence of claimants, the Mangalabag police in Puri have made the decision to cremate the body of an individual who perished in the recent fire tragedy after conducting a post-mortem examination.
The deceased, identified as Dibyaranjan Sahu, had remained unclaimed for five days within the mortuary of SCB Medical College and Hospital, as confirmed by sources familiar with the matter.
Efforts were made by the Mangalabag police to locate Sahu's relatives for the purpose of organizing a post-mortem and subsequent cremation. However, with no family members coming forward to claim the body, authorities have resolved to proceed with the post-mortem and cremation procedures.
In the meantime, the Department of Forensic Medicine & Toxicology has retrieved samples from Sahu's body for further investigation. Samples of his teeth, blood, and hair have been dispatched to the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Rasulgarh for DNA testing.
Dibyaranjan Sahu sustained severe injuries in the Puri fire incident and was initially admitted to the Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar in critical condition. Although he identified himself as Dibyaranjan Sahu, son of Dushmanta Sahu, he was unable to provide his complete address as his health deteriorated.
Subsequently, he was transferred to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at the Burn Care Unit ICU on June 1.
