Naveen Patnaik resigns as Odisha Chief Minister after 24 years

Bhubaneswar, June 6: The BJD Supremo and Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, resigned from his position on Wednesday.
Patnaik submitted his resignation letter to the Governor, marking the end of his distinguished career spanning over 24 years and 89 days as the Chief Minister of Odisha.
At 11:30 am, he departed from his residence, ‘Naveen Niwas,’ for the Raj Bhawan, where he handed over his resignation letter to Odisha Governor Raghubar Das. Patnaik's tenure as CM came to an unexpected end after the Biju Janata Dal lost its majority in the Assembly elections, securing only 51 seats.
In a closely contested battle, Patnaik managed to retain his position in the Hinjili Assembly constituency, winning by a margin of 4,000 votes, but lost in Kantabhanji by 16,000 votes.
The BJD also struggled in the Lok Sabha elections, losing most of its seats to the Bharatiya Janata Party, which secured 20 out of 21 seats. The Congress managed to win only one seat in the Lok Sabha elections.
In the Assembly election, the BJP won 78 seats with a decisive victory, while the Congress won 14 seats.
