Odisha Government moves to dissolve Legislative Assembly before vote counting

Bhubaneswar, June 3: Following the final virtual meeting of the Odisha Cabinet on Monday, the government decided to recommend the dissolution of the 16th Legislative Assembly. This decision was made one day before the counting of votes for the state's Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, scheduled for Tuesday.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik chaired the virtual Cabinet meeting from Bhubaneswar.
The primary agenda of the meeting was to propose the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly as the election process had concluded. The Cabinet resolved to inform the Governor about the completion of the BJD government's tenure and recommend the dissolution of the Assembly.
This procedure is typically completed before the announcement of election results. According to constitutional provisions, the state Cabinet will pass a resolution to dissolve the Assembly after the election results are declared. Subsequently, Cabinet members will submit their resignation letters to the Chief Minister, who will then advise the Governor to dissolve the Assembly to pave the way for the new government.
