Odisha orders inquiry into 41 suspected heatstroke deaths

Bhubaneswar, May 31; Concerned by 41 suspected heatstroke deaths in Western Odisha, the Public Health Department on Friday ordered an inquiry to determine the exact cause of death.
"Post-mortems will be conducted on the bodies of those who died from suspected heatstroke to ascertain the exact cause of death," stated Public Health Director Nilakantha Mishra.
He added, "A fact-finding team has been dispatched to Rourkela from Sundargarh to investigate the matter and assess the situation."
Odisha has reported 41 suspected heatstroke deaths, including 17 in Sundargarh, 8 in Sambalpur, 7 in Jharsuguda, 6 in Bolangir, and three in other parts of the state.
In Sundargarh district, Rourkela recorded 14 of the 17 suspected heatstroke deaths. Twelve individuals died in Rourkela a day earlier, and two more succumbed on Friday while receiving treatment. Additionally, 30 others are currently being treated in various hospitals across the district.
