IMD predicts rain and thunderstorms across Odisha amid rising temperatures

Bhubaneswar, May 17: As temperatures continue to rise across Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar has issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms in 11 districts on Friday.
Forecasts predict thunderstorms and rain with wind speeds of 30-40 km/h in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts. Additionally, a yellow warning for thunderstorms with lightning has been issued for isolated locations in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Ganjam, and Gajapati districts on May 18.
Simultaneously, heatwave conditions are expected to intensify in several parts of Odisha from May 19. The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heatwave conditions in Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, and Angul districts.
Heatwave conditions are likely to persist in isolated places within Nuapada, Bolangir, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Sundargarh districts on May 20. Additionally, a warning for thunderstorms with lightning has been issued for Koraput, Malkangiri, and Nabarangpur districts.
Daytime temperatures are expected to increase by 2°C-4°C in many parts of the state over the next 3-5 days. The monsoon is anticipated to reach the Kerala coast on May 31, according to the weather office.
