Orissa High Court stays arrest warrant against Anubhav Mohanty

Cuttack, May 16: The Orissa High Court has granted actor-turned-MP Anubhav Mohanty a reprieve, issuing a stay order on the Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) issued against him by the Cuttack special JMFC court, according to reliable reports.
The NBW was issued on May 13 in connection with the harassment case filed by Barsha Priyadarshini. The Cuttack special JMFC court had ordered the NBW against Anubhav Mohanty and an accomplice, requiring its execution by May 23. The court dismissed a petition for more time as Anubhav failed to appear in court. Public Prosecutor Afroz Ahmed confirmed the issuance of the NBW, noting the absence of a response from Anubhav.
Anubhav did not appear in court on May 10, preventing the charge framing from proceeding. He had requested additional time through his lawyer, citing personal reasons.
The case dates back to 2020 when allegations of mental and physical torture, threats, and other charges were filed against Anubhav and his two accomplices, Sujit Dallei and Khagendra Prasad Sahu, at the Purighat police station. Government lawyers opposed Anubhav’s discharge petition, with the Assistant Public Prosecutor stating that the allegations by Barsha Priyadarshini were substantiated.
