Arrest in Odisha cheque cloning scam: Accused apprehended in Madhya Pradesh

Bhubaneswar, April 29: Odisha's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has made a significant breakthrough in a cheque cloning case, apprehending a suspect from a village in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh.
The individual in custody, identified as Pomesh Tembhare from Bangalitola, Kirnapur police station in Balaghat district, was swiftly brought before the court of CJM, Balaghat, MP, and subsequently transferred to Bhubaneswar with transit remand.
Scheduled for appearance before the Designated Court under OPID Act, Balasore, today, the arrest stems from a case originating from Bhanjapur PS (Mayurbhanj District), wherein Sujata Kanungo, Chief Manager of Bank of India, Baripada, raised concerns over illegal transactions amounting to Rs. 9,56,76,600. The fraud involved the unauthorized transfer of funds from the District Mineral Foundation Trust's account to entities like PT Constructions & Supplier and S K Enterprises.
During the probe, it was uncovered that Tembhare, as the owner/signatory authority of PT Constructions & Suppliers, played a pivotal role in the scheme, diverting over Rs. 2.68 Crore to various accounts, including self-withdrawals. Evading authorities, he sought refuge in a Naxal-infested village, where he was eventually apprehended with the collaborative efforts of local police and CAPF.
Tembhare's firm, PT Constructions & Suppliers, operates out of Raipur, further implicating his involvement in the illicit activities.
