Survey commences for Bhubaneswar metro rail project
Bhubaneswar, April 26: The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation initiated survey operations for the proposed Metro Railway system in Bhubaneswar on Friday, marking a significant step towards alleviating commuter challenges in the region. The survey, conducted from Vani Vihar to Sishu Bhawan Square, aimed to assess various infrastructure elements crucial for the project's implementation.
A dedicated team comprising members from the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation, along with officials from the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited, TPCODL, GAIL, BSNL, WATCO, and the Commissionerate Traffic Police, undertook the comprehensive survey amidst the prevailing heatwave conditions.
The survey focused on evaluating existing infrastructure such as electricity poles, water pipes, telephone lines, and gas pipelines in the proposed metro station vicinities, laying the groundwork for the ambitious project's execution.
The envisioned metro railway, spanning 26 kilometers and estimated at Rs 8,000 crore, will link Bhubaneswar Airport to Trishulia in Cuttack. Elevated tracks, supported by 450 pillars, will define its trajectory. Initially, the project will encompass five stations, namely Master Canteen, Vani Vihar, Jaydev Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Patia, and Nandankanan, marking the initial phase of implementation.
Once operational, the metro railway promises to substantially reduce travel times, enabling commuters to traverse between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack within a mere 15 minutes, significantly enhancing connectivity and convenience for residents and visitors alike.
