Childline rescues newborn allegedly sold by parents in Jajpur district

Jajpur, April 24: Authorities from Childline recently intervened to rescue a newborn baby allegedly sold by his parents in Saundi village, Dasarathpur block, Jajpur district. The distressing incident unfolded after Silu Jena and his wife Sanju reportedly sold their newborn son.
According to sources, Sanju gave birth to the baby boy on Monday, but she and Silu were dissatisfied as they desired a baby girl, already having a son. This purported dissatisfaction led them to allegedly sell the newborn.
Upon their return to the village, inquiries from fellow villagers about the baby boy left Silu and Sanju unable to provide satisfactory answers. Suspicions arose, prompting villagers to alert Childline authorities.
Childline swiftly initiated an investigation into the matter, collaborating with local police. The child was rescued on Tuesday, and the couple was detained for interrogation regarding the circumstances of the alleged sale.
Following a medical examination, the newborn was presented before the District Child Welfare Committee. Currently, Childline authorities are providing care for the child.
