Odisha sizzles as temperature soars above 40°C in several places

Bhubaneswar, April 24: The latest report from the local Meteorological (MeT) office revealed that temperatures surpassed 40°C in six locations across Odisha by 2:30 pm on Wednesday.
With most parts of Odisha experiencing heatwave-like conditions for nearly a month, Bhubaneswar recorded a scorching 43.2°C at 2:30 pm, while Jharsuguda topped the charts in Odisha with a temperature of 42.9°C.
Amidst the blistering heat, authorities have cautioned residents to avoid outdoor activities from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and to take necessary precautions if venturing out is unavoidable.

Rourkela: 40.8°C
Sambalpur: 40.1°C

Keonjhar: 38.4°C
Gopalpur: 35.4°C
Puri: 35.2°C
Paradip: 34.6°C
The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a further rise in temperatures by four to six degrees in the coming days.
In light of the escalating heat, the Meteorological Center in Bhubaneswar stated, "Temperature will increase by 4-6 degrees in the next 5 days. No significant change in maximum temperature (Day Temperature) in the next 48 hours, followed by a gradual rise by 4-6°C in subsequent 3 days in many places across the districts of Odisha."
A yellow warning for heatwave has been issued for districts including Balasore, Khurda, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Nuapada. Moreover, hot and humid weather conditions are expected to persist in some areas of districts like Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Looking ahead, the weather department has foreseen severe heatwave conditions in Odisha from April 26th onwards. An orange heatwave alert has been issued for districts including Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Khurda for Friday.
