STF raid nets interstate drug peddlers in Odisha's Angul district

Angul, April 13: Acting on precise intelligence, Odisha Police's Special Task Force (STF) conducted raids in Angul district, resulting in the arrest of two drug peddlers, including an interstate dealer.
The apprehended individuals are Rakibul Sekh (43) from West Bengal's Murshidabad district and Bijay Birbarma (26) from Odisha's Angul district. A search yielded 1.120 kg of brown sugar (heroin) and other incriminating items.
The accused lacked proper authorization for possessing the contraband, leading to their arrest and subsequent presentation before the Additional District Judge-cum-Special Judge in Talcher.
The STF registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985, and continues its investigation.
Brown sugar, akin to a crude version of heroin, is typically trafficked from West Bengal's Murshidabad, Nadia, and Burdwan districts via road or rail routes, particularly through Lalgola. Its compact size and lack of distinct odor make it easier to transport compared to ganja.
The STF's ongoing efforts against narcotics have resulted in significant seizures since 2020, including over 76 kg of brown sugar/heroin and 202 grams of cocaine.
