Odisha-cadre IPS officer Sanjay Singh, known for Aryan Khan case probe, chooses VRS

Bhubaneswar, April 18: The Odisha government has given approval to IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh's request for voluntary retirement, marking the end of his tenure leading the investigation into the Aryan Khan drugs case. According to a notification from the Home department, Singh applied for voluntary retirement on February 2, with the retirement effective from April 30. His request to waive the mandatory three-month notice period has been granted.
Singh, who received the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service on Republic Day this year, is a member of the 1996-batch of officers and has served as Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) since January 2021. Notably, he led the special investigation team that took over the cruise drug case from the NCB Mumbai, led by Sameer Wankhede, in November 2021. Aryan Khan, involved in the case, was subsequently cleared of charges.
His career spans various roles within the Odisha Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Before joining the NCB, Singh served as Additional Director General (ADG) heading the Drug Task Force (DTF) of the Odisha Police. He also held the position of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the CBI from 2008 to 2015, handling numerous high-profile cases.
