Former Odisha minister Kamala Das passes away

Bhubaneswar, April 12: Kamala Das, a former minister in Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) and Women and Child Development (WCD), passed away last night while receiving treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack. Her nephew confirmed the sad news.
At 79 years old, Kamala had been battling a lung-related ailment. She was rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar 15 days ago after being diagnosed with a lung infection. Later, she was transferred to a private hospital in Cuttack, where she spent the last three days on a ventilator before passing away last night.
Kamala, a three-time MLA from the Bhograi constituency, had a long and distinguished political career. She was elected to the State Assembly in 1995, 2000, and 2004. Her political journey began in 1990 when she successfully contested as a Janata Dal candidate, followed by victories in 1995 (also as a Janata Dal candidate) and in 2000 as a BJD candidate.
Following her demise, several notable figures have been visiting the hospital to pay their respects to her memory. Her mortal remains will be taken to her hometown of Bhograi, where her final rites will be performed in accordance with Hindu traditions, as per sources.
