Bhubaneswar, April 9: A female athlete at the state level was discovered hanging in a private hostel near the former office of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) under puzzling circumstances on Tuesday morning.

The deceased, identified as Sarojini Sundara, hailed from Jagadalapur in the Delanga police jurisdiction of Puri district. Known for her prowess in boxing and Kho Kho at the state level, Sarojini had been residing in Bhubaneswar for the past few years while working at a motorcycle showroom.

The Bargarh Police launched an investigation upon discovering the body, subsequently transferring it to Capital Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Authorities have initiated inquiries with Sarojini's acquaintances to determine whether her death was a result of foul play or self-inflicted. "We are examining her call records to shed light on the circumstances of her demise," stated an investigating official.

Upon receiving the news, Sarojini's family members rushed to Bhubaneswar, asserting that she harbored no animosity towards anyone.
