Heatwave forces Odisha to restrict outdoor sports activities

Bhubaneswar, April 6: Due to the intense heatwave affecting Odisha, the state government has taken precautionary measures by instructing the Sports department to limit outdoor sports activities from 11 am to 3 pm.
The directive came from the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), urging the Director of Sports and Youth Services to enforce this restriction due to the prevailing heatwave conditions.
In a statement posted on X, the SRC's office emphasized the need for strict enforcement of the restriction on outdoor sports activities during the hot summer hours. Additionally, an official letter from the Additional SRC to the Sports department highlighted the observation of outdoor games like cricket, football, and hockey being played in various areas despite the adverse weather conditions.
With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting continued hot and humid weather along with the possibility of a heatwave in the state, the government urged caution and advised against engaging in outdoor sports activities during the specified hours. The SRC's office also advised the public to take necessary precautions when venturing outside between 11 am and 3 pm.
