Cuttack, April 4: In a tragic incident, a man met with a fatal accident after falling into an uncovered drain at Mahima Nagar area, situated under the jurisdiction of CRRI police station in Cuttack on Thursday.

The deceased, identified as a resident of Jajpur and employed as a mason in Cuttack, reportedly encountered the mishap while returning home after work.

According to reports, the drain had been left uncovered due to ongoing construction work in the vicinity, resulting in the unfortunate incident. The victim slipped into the narrow drain, which was only one foot wide, while walking back home in the evening.

His body was discovered in the drain on Thursday morning. Upon notification from locals who spotted the body, the police conducted a recovery operation.

Following the tragic demise, tension gripped the locality as residents voiced their frustration over the incident. They criticized the administration for its perceived negligence, emphasizing that such occurrences have become distressingly common due to the authorities' lackadaisical approach.
