Odisha braces for escalating heat wave: IMD warns of intense conditions ahead

Bhubaneswar, April 3: The scorching conditions in Odisha are set to escalate, with harsher days looming ahead. Tuesday saw day temperatures soaring past 41°C, and according to the regional India Meteorological Department (IMD), the situation is poised to deteriorate further in the coming days.
Forecasters predict that Odisha will endure oppressive heat wave conditions until April 6, with daytime temperatures expected to surge by 4°C-6°C during this timeframe. Even nights won't offer relief, as they are projected to be warmer and uncomfortable, cautioned the IMD. By April 6, maximum temperatures could surpass 43°C in certain pockets of western Odisha, fueled by warm winds sweeping in from the west and northwest.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for intense heat waves in six Odisha districts - Balsore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar - for today. In some areas of western Odisha, Wednesday may witness day temperatures exceeding 42°C.
Authorities advise residents to stay indoors during peak hours and avoid outdoor activities between 11 am and 3 pm unless absolutely necessary. Meanwhile, from April 6 to April 8, several locations in Odisha are anticipated to experience Kalbaisakhi, bringing light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms.
