Ailing elephant found dead in Odisha's Ganjam district

Bhubaneswar, March 31: On Sunday morning, local residents discovered the carcass of an elephant in the Karadabani-Beruabadi area within the Tilisingi section of Ghumusar (north) Forest Division in Odisha's Ganjam district.
The villagers had noticed the ailing elephant near a creek in the forest on Saturday and promptly informed Forest Department officials. Although Forest Department staff visited the location and monitored the elephant's movements, it was reported that they did not provide medical assistance despite confirming the elephant's deteriorating health over several days.
Prior to its demise, the elephant had been observed roaming near the creek on Saturday. Some inhabitants of Beruabadi village accused Forest officials of negligence in providing medical aid to the elephant.
An autopsy of the deceased elephant is scheduled to be conducted on Monday.
