Titlagarh sub-jail break: One detainee caught, another evades capture

Bhubaneswar : Police apprehended one of the two under-trial prisoners (UTPs) who had fled from Titlagarh Sub-jail on Saturday, but the search continues for the other escapee.
The captured individual, identified as Sumit Bihari, was detained in Delhi. Meanwhile, efforts persist to locate the remaining prisoner, Shobhavan Rana.
According to sources, both Bihari and Rana were incarcerated for separate murder charges. Rana, known as a sorcerer, was implicated in the deaths of two children allegedly sacrificed to appease a deity in Sindheikela. On the other hand, Bihari faced accusations of hurling a toddler into a well situated on the premises of Kesinga Hospital, resulting in the child's demise.
Following the incident, the DIG of Prisons, Sambalpur, conducted an investigation at the jail. His inquiry revealed that the under-trials had escaped by scaling wall no-4 with the aid of a ladder. Furthermore, CCTV footage from the area was discovered to be missing.
The DIG held the jail staff accountable for the breach and suspended the warden of Titlagarh sub-jail in Bolangir for negligence. Jailer Chaitanya Pradhan filed a formal complaint with the Titilagarh police station regarding the incident.
