Railway line project sparks shutdown in Odisha's Keonjhar

Keonjhar, March 18: Normal life came to a standstill in Odisha's Keonjhar district since 6.00 am on Monday following a 24-hour shutdown initiated by the Keonjhar Truck Owners Association. The call for the shutdown was backed by 15 associations, including local bus owners and merchants.
The shutdown is in opposition to the proposed railway line project connecting OMC mines in Keonjhar Suakati to Gohaldihi railway siding. Supporters of the shutdown have obstructed train movements by occupying railway tracks, expressing concerns that the project would severely impact truck services in the area once operational.
Businesses and educational institutions across Keonjhar district remained shuttered for the day in solidarity with the shutdown, with public transport services suspended. To prevent any untoward incidents, the district administration has deployed a substantial police presence.
