Two killed in lightning strikes in Odisha's Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts

Bhubaneswar, March 18: Tragedy struck in Odisha's Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts on Monday morning as two individuals lost their lives in separate incidents of lightning strikes.
In the first incident, Budhuni, a resident of Manik Sahi village under Jarak panchayat in Mayurbhanj district, was fatally struck by lightning. Budhuni was on her way to retrieve clothes she had left outside her home to dry when strong winds and sudden rainfall ensued. Amidst the rush to seek shelter, she tragically succumbed to a lightning strike.
The second victim, identified as Ranjan Pramanik from Tukurihajira village in Balasore district, met a similar fate. While attending to his prawn farming pond, heavy rainfall prompted Ranjan to seek refuge in a nearby thatched house. Unfortunately, lightning struck him, claiming his life instantly. Additionally, the lightning strike damaged Ranjan's dwelling.
These incidents serve as stark reminders of the dangers posed by natural calamities, prompting communities to remain vigilant during adverse weather conditions.
