Odisha Police arrests inspector on the run for alleged drug peddler links

Bhubaneswar, March 16: Odisha Police has apprehended an inspector-rank official who had been evading arrest due to his alleged involvement with drug peddlers in Balasore district.
Dhaneswar Sahu, former Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Jaleswar police station in Balasore, was captured by Crime Branch sleuths at his residence in Narasinghapur area of Cuttack district. He had been on the run for the past four years. Sources revealed that during his tenure as Jaleswar police IIC in 2020, Sahu maintained regular communication with certain brown sugar peddlers. An audio clip purportedly featuring Sahu's conversations with these peddlers circulated widely in the locality.
Following these allegations, Sahu was transferred to the Balasore police headquarters. The Director General of Police (DGP) in Odisha took the accusations seriously, suspending Sahu and initiating a Crime Branch investigation.
However, Sahu absconded soon after the probe commenced. Acting on a tip-off, Crime Branch officials raided Sahu's residence in Narasinghpur and apprehended him today.
