Padma Shri Binapani Mohanty No More , To Be Creamated With Full State Honours
Renowned writer Padma Shri Binapani Mohanty who passed away yesterday evening will be cremated with full state honours today as announced by Odisha CM Shri Naveen Patnaik. She breathed her last at 85 in her Cuttack residence on Sunday. She was under treatment for geriatric related ailments.
Soon after receiving the news of the demise of the noted writer Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik expressed his deepest condolences and wrote “I am saddened to learn of the death of eminent writer Binapani Mohanty. This is an irreparable loss to the world of Oriya literature. He will always be remembered in the hearts of the readers for his timeless creation. I extend my heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish them well.”
Pata Dei, Khela Ghara, Naiku Rasta, Bastraharana, Andhakarara, Kasturi Murga O Sabuja Aranya and Michhi Michhika are some of her best-known stories. Binapani Mohanty was conferred with the Padma Shri in 2020 for her contribution to Odia literature. She also was awarded the Adibadi Jagannath Das Puraskar – the highest literary award by the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, in 2019. Prior to these, she also had received the Sahitya Akademy award in 1990 and Sarala Puraskar in 2010.
