Berhampur, Feb 22: Four individuals were apprehended by the police on Wednesday for feigning disability to beg on the streets within the Berhampur Municipal Corporation area. The arrested individuals, namely Ajay Kumar, Anil Kumar, Mero, and Jashobant Kumar, hail from Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh.

According to reports, the quartet had been posing as disabled individuals using crutches for the past few years. On Wednesday, two of them were found begging at Kamapalli Chhak, drawing the attention of the police due to their suspicious activities. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the two were not actually disabled and had been pretending to be so to gain sympathy from the public.

Acknowledging that playing the role of disabled individuals while begging garnered sympathy, the two admitted to their deceptive practices. Subsequently, the police arrested the remaining two culprits. A case of deception has been registered against them, and they have been presented in court. The Berhampur Superintendent of Police (SP) mentioned that an investigation is ongoing to verify their backgrounds.
