Puri-Konark route to feature scenic vistadome train and heritage hubs

Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: Tourists are in for a treat as the scenic beauty of the route from Puri to Konark will soon be accessible through a specially designed vistadome train.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw revealed on Tuesday the initiation of the Puri-Konark railway project, valued at Rs 492 crore, featuring trains equipped with vistadome coaches.
During a press conference following his re-election to the Rajya Sabha from Odisha, Vaishnaw announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the construction of a new railway line connecting Puri to Konark, aiming to establish a spiritual, heritage, and coastal corridor.
The project, spanning 32 kilometers, will necessitate 215 hectares of land. Vaishnaw appealed for the State government's collaboration in land acquisition, expressing that construction would commence promptly upon securing the required land. He also noted that the project's design is near completion.
In addition to relishing the natural vistas, tourists aboard the vistadome train will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Jagannath culture, facilitated by augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technologies.
Furthermore, the Railway minister unveiled plans for the establishment of special heritage hubs at select locations along the Puri-Konark route. These hubs will showcase Odisha's rich culture and heritage. Vaishnaw emphasized the importance of the State government's contribution in providing land for these heritage hubs.
