Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: During the demolition of her home on government land in Kochilakhai village of Deuli panchayat, Khordha district, a woman named Mita Patsani attempted suicide by consuming poison on Saturday. 

She was quickly taken to the District Headquarters Hospital and later transferred to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar as her health worsened.

According to Mita’s husband, Krushna Chandra Patsani, they had built two rooms on government land adjacent to their own and were living there with their family. Two months ago, one of the rooms was demolished by the Tahasildar.

Despite Mita pleading to spare the remaining room, the Tahasildar proceeded to demolish it using an earthmover. Feeling hopeless, Mita ingested pesticide kept in their house for use on vegetable crops.

While Mita suffered from convulsions due to the poison, she was rescued by the police and Tahasildar and taken to the District Headquarters Hospital. Her condition deteriorated, leading to her transfer to AIIMS Bhubaneswar.
