CM Naveen to inaugurate World Odia Language Conference in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, Feb 1: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is set to inaugurate the inaugural three-day Biswa Odia Bhasa Sammilani (World Odia Language Conference) on February 3 at Bhubaneswar's Janata Maidan. The conference will feature 16 special sessions covering topics ranging from Odia language, literature, to heritage, hosted in five dedicated conference rooms.
A particular focus will be on Jagannath consciousness, alongside discussions on the future prospects and opportunities for the Odia language under the theme "Odisha @2036: A Space for Tomorrow."
International linguists, numerous writers, and literary figures are slated to attend, with the conference also hosting exhibitions showcasing artifacts and photos related to the Odia language.
Among the distinguished participants are international scholars such as Prof Herman Kulke, Prof Uwe Skoda, Prof Arlo Griffiths, and Prof Annette Achmiedchen, as outlined by the Odisha government.
Dr. Debi Prasanna Pattanayak will be recognized with the Lifetime Achievement Award for his significant contributions to Odia language and linguistics. Furthermore, Jnanpith Award winners, Padma awardees, Sahitya Academy awardees, Kabir Samman awardees, and recipients of top state academy honors will be honored during the event.
The conference aims to present an exhibition showcasing Odisha's rich heritage, its present transformations, and future aspirations. Exhibits will cover the evolution of the Odia language and script, ancient artifacts such as rock edicts and palm leaf manuscripts, the distinctive Kalinga style of temple architecture, and Odisha's historical maritime and trade connections through various artifacts and paintings.
