England surges to victory in series opener against India

Despite India's initial 190-run lead in the first innings, England staged an impressive turnaround, propelled by Ollie Pope's 196 and Tom Hartley's seven-wicket haul on Day 4.
Facing a target of 231 runs in the fourth innings, India succumbed to Hartley's spell, supported by crucial breakthroughs from Joe Root and Jack Leach, leading to their dismissal for 202 runs.
Debutant Hartley notably ended with figures of 7/62, claiming the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Axar Patel, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj. His stellar performance culminated in dismissing Mohammed Siraj as the final Indian batsman, sealing a memorable away victory for the visiting team.
