Odisha freedom fighter Nilamani Samal passes away

Bhubaneswar, Jan 27: Renowned Odisha freedom fighter, Nilamani Samal, passed away today at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.
Samal, aged 102, breathed his last while under treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Medicine ward at SCBMCH, according to sources. A resident of Balichandrapur in Jajpur district, Samal had been battling old-age related complications for several days and was admitted to the hospital's Medicine ward a few days prior.
During India's struggle for independence, Samal had endured three years of imprisonment under British rule. He served as the president of the freedom fighters' association in Odisha, as per sources.
Acknowledging his significant contributions, Samal was honored with Presidential awards on two occasions, marking his dedication to the nation's freedom movement.
