Malkangiri, Jan 24: In a tragic incident, a man identified as Pedapuri Kandababu took the life of his wife by slashing her throat and subsequently ended his own life, pointing to a suspected family dispute in the Padia area of Malkangiri district on Wednesday.

The shocking crime unfolded as Pedapuri, a resident of Chhattisgarh, carried out the heinous act while under the influence of alcohol. Married to Benu Kumari of Padia in Malkangiri for eight years, Pedapuri had been residing with his wife at her family's home in Padia, where the family had been functioning smoothly.

On the fateful Wednesday, Pedapuri returned home in an inebriated state and engaged in a heated argument with his wife, Benu Kumari, over trivial matters. Fueled by the dispute, Pedapuri resorted to a gruesome act by fatally slashing his wife's throat with a knife. Subsequently, he attempted to take his own life by cutting his own throat.

Neighbors intervened, rescuing him in a critical condition and rushing him to Padia CHC. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending doctors.

The precise motive behind this tragic incident remains unclear, prompting the police to seize both bodies for post-mortem examination as they initiate a thorough investigation into the matter.
