Berhampur, Jan 19: A devastating head-on collision between a scooter and a motorcycle near Kesaripatana under Sorada police limits in Odisha's Ganjam district last night resulted in the loss of at least five lives and left another individual critically injured.

The incident occurred around 11:20 pm when a scooter, carrying three electricity department staffers, collided with a motorcycle carrying three men. The impact of the collision led to the immediate death of four individuals, with another person succumbing to injuries at the hospital.

The victims were identified as Srikanta Gouda of Asurabandha, Manoj Dakua of Dulada, Mahendra Nayak of Gopalpursasan, Jayant Batatya of Sorada, and Rajani Gouda of Sanasorada.

The critically injured individual, identified as Purna Gouda, received initial treatment at Sorada Hospital and was subsequently transferred to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced medical care.

Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the tragic incident to determine the circumstances leading to the collision.
